Not long ago, my daughter and I went to visit my parents in Arizona, expecting a normal trip. Instead, I found myself in my dad’s backyard…hunting scorpions.
There we were, scanning the ground like undercover agents. At first, I didn’t see a single thing. I started thinking, “This is pointless…there’s nothing out here.” Then my dad flipped on the ultraviolet light. And just like that…BOOM. The ground lit up with these tiny glowing creatures—scorpions shining in this wild greenish-yellow like they were plugged into a neon outlet. They had been there the whole time. I just couldn’t see them. And in that moment, standing in the dark with a glowing backyard full of hidden danger and a salt gun in my hand…God was teaching me some lessons about life.
Faith Helps You See What You’d Otherwise Miss
Without the light, the scorpions stayed hidden. That’s a lot like our spiritual lives. There are things in our hearts—fears, sin, attitudes—that we don’t even notice until God’s light reveals them. His Word has a way of exposing what’s really going on beneath the surface. Living out your faith isn’t just about what you do outwardly—it’s about allowing God to shine His light inwardly.
Faith Requires Action
Once we saw the scorpions, we couldn’t just ignore them. We had to deal with them.
So yes…we grabbed the salt pellet gun and handled business. It wasn’t about being dramatic—it was about protection…and maybe a little drama. And that’s what real faith looks like. It’s not just believing something—it’s doing something about it. As I’ve said before, faith isn’t just intention…it moves. When God reveals something in your life, the next step is obedience.
Faith Shows Up in the Dark
Scorpions come out at night. And a lot of times, our faith is tested in the dark seasons too—when things feel uncertain, uncomfortable, or unclear. That’s when it matters most. Life isn’t always smooth or predictable—it’s more like a rugged course with ups and downs. But even in the dark, God is still present. Still guiding. Still working.
Final Thought
That night in my dad’s backyard wasn’t just about scorpions. It was a reminder: God will shine light on things we can’t see… but it’s up to us to respond.
So let me ask you: What is God revealing in your life right now?
Don’t ignore it.
Lean in.
Act on it.
Trust Him with it.
Because living out your faith isn’t about staying comfortable in the dark…It’s about walking boldly in the light.
