Let me ask you something to start…What do you fear the most?
Not the quick answer—the real one.
If you slow down long enough, something usually rises to the surface. Maybe it’s losing control. Maybe it’s not having enough. Maybe it’s rejection, failure, or something happening that you can’t fix.
Fear has a way of attaching itself to the areas that matter most. And here’s what’s interesting…Fear doesn’t just visit your life—it starts shaping it.
It influences your decisions.
It affects your relationships.
It even changes how you see yourself.
If you really trace it back, a lot of what we do in life is either driven by faith… or fear.
The Problem With Fear
Fear is powerful. It can speed up your heart, cloud your thinking, and cause you to react in ways you normally wouldn’t. It doesn’t even have to be real to feel real. A thought… a scenario… a “what if”… and suddenly your whole body responds. That’s how strong it is. And that’s exactly why it’s so dangerous. Because when fear takes over, you don’t think clearly.
You don’t live freely.
You don’t love fully.
Instead, you start protecting, hiding, and holding back.
You go from living with purpose… to living in survival mode.
What God Actually Said About Fear
Now here’s where everything shifts. Scripture tells us: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” So if fear isn’t from God… where is it coming from? And more importantly…Why are we letting it lead? God is very clear—fear is not something He gives. But you know what He does give? Love. And not just any kind of love…Perfect love.
The Power of Perfect Love
There’s another verse that brings this into full focus: “Perfect love casts out fear.”
Not manages it.
Not reduces it.
Not negotiates with it.
It casts it out.
That word “casts” is strong. It means to drive out, to push away, to remove completely. So what does that tell us? It tells us that fear and perfect love cannot occupy the same space. If fear is present, it’s not because God’s love is absent… It’s because we’re not fully anchored in it.
Why Love Changes Everything
Fear says, “What if everything falls apart?”
Love says, “God is still in control.”
Fear says, “What if I’m not enough?”
Love says, “You are already accepted.”
Fear says, “What if I lose?”
Love says, “You are already secure.”
When you begin to understand how deeply God loves you—not just intellectually, but personally—something starts to shift inside of you. You stop striving. You stop performing. You stop trying to control everything. And you start trusting. Because love creates security. And security removes fear.
Where Fear Hits the Hardest
Think about the areas where fear shows up most in your life.
- Finances?
- Relationships?
- Your future?
Fear tends to attack where you feel the least control. But here’s the truth… God’s love meets you right there. Not once you fix it. Not once you figure it out. But right in the middle of it. And when you truly believe that—when you let that truth settle in your heart—it changes how you respond.
Living From Love, Not Fear
You don’t overcome fear by trying to eliminate every situation that makes you uncomfortable. You overcome fear by changing what you’re anchored to. If you’re anchored to outcomes, fear will always win. If you’re anchored to God’s love, fear loses its grip. Because now your confidence isn’t in what might happen…It’s in who God is.
Final Thought
Fear will show up. It always does. But it doesn’t get to stay. Not when you’re rooted in God’s love. So the next time fear starts speaking…Pause for a moment. Don’t just react—remember. Remember who God is. Remember what He said. Remember how deeply you are loved. Because when His perfect love fills your heart…there’s no room left for fear.
