The Gift Of The Give

A few years ago I did a message at Hoosier Harvest Church called the GIFT OF THE GIVE. This was a Christmas time sermon I gave to challenge us to be givers.

The greatest gift we can receive is when we give to someone else in need. It is truly better to give than to receive as the old statement goes. Jesus challenged us to be givers.

Matthew 10:8b (NIV)

Freely you have received; freely give.

We should give out of our abundant blessings in life. If there’s anyone who should be the best givers…it should be followers of Christ. We have been given so much through Him.

  • We give because we have been given
  • We love because we have been loved
  • We serve because we have been served
  • We forgive because we have been forgiven
  • We bless because we have been blessed

When American psychologist Dr. Karl Menninger was asked, “What would you advise a person to do if he felt a nervous breakdown coming on?” Assuming he would expound on an intensive treatment plan his response shocked them. He said, “Lock up your house, go across the railway tracks, find someone in need, and do something to help that person.”

Our greatest blessings come when we become the greatest blessing for someone else. This Christmas season is about expressing the love and goodness of God. I challenge all of us to give more than you’ve ever given before to those in need in your circle of influence.

“Our greatest blessings come when we become the greatest blessing for someone else.”
