Romans 8:28 Breakdown

This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible…let’s break it down…

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

1.) And We Know

It is assumed that every follower of Christ should KNOW this truth. We cannot doubt God’s word and question the validity of His promises. This verbiage is a reminder to us that we do not have to waver in our faith to stand on God’s promise. It also lets us know that whatever is about to be said is not negotiable…it is an iron-clad promise of God…do not question it no matter what circumstances take place.

2.) That In All Things

All things really does mean ALL THINGS. Not some things, not most things, not every now and then, not when you have been good or deserve it, but IN ALL THINGS. God’s promises are not distributed to some and not others. He is no respecter of persons. This promise we are about to read stands true in ALL THINGS no matter how crazy or hopeless they may seem. This is important for what we are about to read, but we must first settle that this promise is true even in the most unlikely of circumstances.

3.) God Works

Always remember it is not about our strength and our intellect. It is only BY GOD that things get worked out. Only because of His great mercy and power are we even able to experience this promise. Too many people feel that the weight of their future rests on their own shoulders, but we were never meant to carry this unmanageable load on our own. Christ is our strength and our plan. No matter how smart we get we can never make things happen on our own, it is only through Christ that we have access to His plans and provision for our life. He is the master craftsman and we are His masterpiece.

4.) For The Good

Not some for good and some for bad…ALL THINGS FOR THE GOOD. The only peace we can have is found in this verse. When you view life as something that God is working our for our good you can go through life with peace that no matter what happens there is purpose. No matter what transpires God uses it for His glory somehow, someway. What the enemy meant for evil God turns for the good always! It is because of this phrase FOR THE GOOD that we can lay our head down at night in complete peace that passes all understanding of our current circumstances and rest in His promise.

5.) Of Those Who Love Him

This promise is conditional for those that love Him. Those that reject God will never know this peace and truth in life. God works everything out for His children. Like a great father He takes care of His own. He looks after His children and protects us from ultimate destruction. Though we may go through much, He is always working it for our good when we have a love for Him. Love speaks of relationship, and relationship speaks of a child of God. We are His children who can rest in His fathering heart.

6.) Who Have Been Called According To His Purpose

As His children we are called to fulfill His purpose. This is why God works all things out, He is doing it to fulfill His grand plan for us and those around us. When we are in His purpose then we know He is in control, not us. And though giving up control is hard for some, knowing that He is in control should set us free from spiritual stress. God will always work things out for His purpose and we get to be part of that plan. Our lives are a piece to His ultimate puzzle and He will fit us in where we need to be. And where we need to be is the best place we could ever be.
