We live in the age of playlists.
We build playlists for workouts, road trips, relaxing evenings, beach days, and family parties. With one tap, we can choose the soundtrack of our day. But while most people think carefully about the music in their headphones, few think carefully about the messages in their spirit.
The soundtrack in your head is shaping the direction of your life.
What you repeatedly listen to will eventually influence how you think, how you feel, and how you live.
Your Mind Always Has Something On Repeat
Whether you realize it or not, your mind is always playing something.
Maybe it sounds like:
- “I’ll never change.”
- “Things will always be this way.”
- “I’m not enough.”
- “I’m too late.”
- “God has forgotten me.”
Or maybe it sounds like:
- “God is with me.”
- “His mercies are new every morning.”
- “I can do all things through Christ.”
- “He who began a good work in me will finish it.”
- “The best is still ahead.”
The question is not if something is playing.
The question is: What playlist are you feeding your spirit?
The Bible Tells Us To Create The Soundtrack
Colossians 3:2 says: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Notice the word set.
God doesn’t force your thoughts. He invites your participation. You have the God-given ability to choose what fills your mind. You can turn the dial. You can change the station. You can reject toxic noise and embrace eternal truth.
Earthly Noise vs God’s Truth
The world’s playlist is loud:
- Fear
- Panic
- Division
- Comparison
- Bitterness
- Negativity
- Chaos
God’s playlist is different:
- Peace
- Purpose
- Hope
- Truth
- Identity
- Courage
- Love
Many followers of Christ wonder why they feel spiritually drained while listening to worldly noise all day long. You cannot feed on anxiety and expect peace. You cannot meditate on fear and expect faith. You cannot replay lies and expect confidence.
Your life is being shaped by your playlist. The first step to unlocking greater faith is to take control of what you’re listening to. The more you fill your mind with God’s playlist, the more you begin to live out His purposes.
Reflection Questions
- What soundtrack has been playing in my mind lately?
- Is it producing faith or fear?
- What voices do I need to mute?
- What truth do I need to put on repeat?
