You Need Heart Surgery

A lot of money and study is put into the research of the human heart. We have made some fantastic discoveries with technology revealing the functions of the physical heart. But the most powerful and revealing study we could ever do would be the study on the condition of our spiritual heart. The Bible has a lot to say about our hearts. It uses the symbolism of the heart as the center of who we are. Just like our physical heart is the hub of our life source, our spiritual heart is the hub of our spiritual life source. Our physical life is a product of what happens in our spiritual heart.

Psalms 139:23,24

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

In this Psalm, King David asked God to reveal to him the condition of his heart. David constantly sought to know if his heart reflected God’s image. He willingly exposed the condition of his heart by being transparent with God. He wasn’t afraid of doing “heart surgery” if needed. Asking God to search us, like David did, humbly points our spiritual compass toward Him. It gets our heart to where it needs to be. It lines us up with who God has called us to be. Understand that worship is not just about what we do; it is about who we are, a condition of our hearts. Therefore we measure our life by God’s standards, not our own. Jesus said…

John 4:23

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when true worshipers will worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”

God is actively seeking those on the earth that are reflecting His glory. He is not looking for the wisest person with the best reputation. He is not looking for the most successful person on earth. He is looking for Himself to be glorified in you. Notice Jesus did not say He was looking for worship in John 4:23, He said He was looking for worshipers. Now that was a huge statement! God does not need worship as though He is lacking something. He has no need, He is God. However, He seeks worshipers because worshipers have a relationship with Him.

Worship is something we give to God, but being a worshiper is something that we are for God. It is a condition of our heart, and the condition of our heart shows us who we really are.
