Who Is Prayer For?

Prayer

Prayer is a POWERFUL weapon that we have as Christians. Prayer causes us to get in alignment with God’s plans and purposes. Prayer is more for us than it is for God. God knows His plans and what is in His heart to do, we are the ones who are limited! Prayer is about us getting in tune with His purposes not getting God in tune with our purposes. 19th Century theologian Søren Kierkegaard said,

“The function of prayer is not to influence God,

but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.”

We don’t pray to get God to do something, we pray for God to get us to do something. I am not saying we cannot ask God and approach Him with request, however our request should not be about getting God to submit to our will, it should be about us submitting to His will. Archbishop and poet Richard Chenevix Trench said,

“We must not conceive of prayer as on overcoming of God’s reluctance,

but as a laying hold of His highest willingness.”

When we know the power of prayer, how to pray, and what to pray we will begin to tap into His power through this great weapon we have called prayer. What an honor we have to approach the Throne of Grace! This is a huge deal. In the Old Testament the people had to go to the High Priest to offer a prayer to God, but because of Jesus’ sacrifice He became our High Priest that we can directly go to now. We have more access to the Throne than even those of the Old Testament, now think about that! If we have more access than we should have more wisdom on how to pray and the power to accomplish those prayers!

Our prayer life will determine the scope of our future. The more we pray the greater the possibilities, the less we pray the less the possibilities. So do some self discovery and ask yourself, “Am I praying like my future depends on it?”

That is a tough question, if you are like me my answer is less than sufficient for the destiny that awaits me. I do not want to condemn or be the prayer police, but we must be challenged on our prayer life! If we REALLY want to see God’s purposes get in us we have to get in prayer. My hope is to challenge us this week to learn about prayer and up our prayer life in a greater way! When we start to pray the way God intended for us to pray we may just see supernatural unexplainable thins happen in us and through us! Prayer is about God’s will getting into us so that we can be, do, and have all that He has for us! Prayer is not for God as though He needs it, it is for us because we NEED it!
