My Mom Was Crazy…

GIVE more than you RECEIVE

I remember my mom telling me as I was growing up that it is more blessed to give than to receive. I thought she had the statement backwards! I figured it was her old age messing with her memory. I didn’t figure out that her formula did not need to be flipped until I matured into an adult. The reality of this statement is true, but it can feel foreign to us until we experience the joy of witnessing someone’s life change as a result of our giving to them. It is one of the greatest joys on earth! Imagine the lives we could change if we truly gave more than we received. Not just with finances but with our time and honor.

You may not have the means to give financially to someone right now, but you always carry with you the means to care for them. Giving is about taking our time, talent, and treasure to help others. You can make a difference with whatever you have, big or small. We all have something to give to others. No one has nothing to give. No matter how poor you may be, you have much to give through your abilities, skills, and care.

The great thing about giving more than you receive is that God tends to give you more of what you give away. What you are willing to let go of comes back to you. When you sow seeds of serving others, you reap a harvest of the things you need in life.

What you HONOR God with is what He gives you an ABUNDANCE of.

If you are faithful to honor God with your money, He will pour financial blessings out on your life. If you are faithful to honor God with your gifts and talents, He will give you more opportunities to use them. If you are faithful to honor God with your time, He will give you even more. God gives more to those that pour out what He has already given them. If you are wasting your life by not doing anything with it, why would you expect to get more of what you want out of life? When we are faithful with the everyday things God puts in front of us, He will give us more of it.

You may want more opportunity. Then what are you doing with the opportunity He has given you? Are you halfhearted about it? Do you desire to speak in front of thousands, yet only give it half your energy when you are speaking to ten? Do you desire to be financially secure and in a place of freedom, but continue to blow your money on wasteful things? Do you desire to have a great marriage, yet always come home tired and uninterested, or worse yet, do you blame your spouse for your troubles?

Make the most of what you have and it will grow to be more. Think of every opportunity as a seed. Only if you plant that seed and are faithful to take care of it, will it one day grow into a mighty tree.
