You Are Filled For A Purpose

We often talk about being filled with the Holy Spirit, but we don’t always talk about why. What’s the point of being filled if we’re not doing anything with it? God didn’t fill us just to give us spiritual goosebumps — He filled us to do.

Let me break it down.

We see a progression in Scripture when it comes to God’s presence:

  1. At Bethlehem — Jesus is with us.
Emmanuel. God steps into our world, wraps Himself in flesh, and walks among us. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling with us.
  2. At Calvary — Jesus is as us.
He didn’t just die for us; He died as us. He took our place. Took our shame. Took our sin. The punishment that brought us peace was on Him.
  3. At the Empty Tomb — Jesus is for us.
After conquering death, He rises victorious. And now, seated at the right hand of the Father, He intercedes for us. He is our advocate, our high priest. He is for you right now.
  4. At Pentecost — Jesus is in us.
The Holy Spirit comes. Not to hover around us. Not to show up occasionally when the worship band hits the right chord. He comes to dwell in us — permanently. Powerfully.

Let that progression sink in…

  • From with us
  • To as us
  • To for us
  • To in us

Jesus filled us to do.

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8)

Power for what? To witness. To lead. To stand. To speak. To love. To go. To forgive. To create. To heal. To believe. To persevere.

You were filled to do.

But here’s the problem…

Some of us are too full of the wrong stuff. Full of doubt. Full of excuses. Full of fear. Full of pride. Full of comparison. Full of busyness. Full of bitterness.

The Apostle Paul said, “Be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18)

You can’t be filled with the Spirit if you’re already full of something else.

If your heart is full of fear, there’s no room for faith.
If your soul is packed with bitterness, there’s no space for boldness.
If you’re bloated with busyness, the Spirit has no margin to move.

Empty yourself. Make room.

Because being filled is never just for your benefit. It’s for others. It’s for the Kingdom.

You’re not just a vessel — you’re a conduit. The Spirit flows through you to impact others.

The presence of God went from the Ark, to the Tent, to the Temple, and now… to you.

You are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. You are the dwelling place of power.

And God didn’t fill you so you could sit still. He filled you to move forward. To obey. To serve. To go.

So don’t just pray for the filling — pray for the assignment.

Don’t just seek the power — seek the purpose behind it.
