If you haven’t read Part 1 do so now…
In our last post, we looked at Jesus’ first miracle—water into wine. But there’s more to the story. Tucked into the final verses of John 2 is a message we can’t miss. It’s a declaration over your life, your future, and your purpose: God saves the best for now—and when His favor flows, He makes the ordinary extraordinary.
Let’s pick it up in John 2:9–11.
“The master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He didn’t realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew… He said, ‘Everyone brings out the choice wine first… but you have saved the best till now.’”
That line gets me every time: “You have saved the best till now.”
There’s a message in that verse for you today: God’s not finished. He’s just getting started.
When the Master Tastes the Miracle
The master of the banquet had no idea a miracle had just occurred. He just knew what he tasted was next-level. He didn’t see the process. He didn’t understand the source. But he experienced the favor.
You see, favor doesn’t always make sense—it just makes waves.
When you walk in obedience, when you bring your water, when you fill your jars to the brim, there comes a moment when others start tasting the sweetness of what God has done in you.
That’s favor.
Jesus could’ve easily said, “Hey! That was Me—give Me the mic!” But instead, He let the bridegroom receive the credit. Why? Because Jesus wasn’t just showing off His power—He was showing off His grace. His glory elevates others.
Friend, when God moves in your life, He’ll put you in rooms you didn’t earn, open doors you didn’t knock on, and place you in favor you couldn’t manufacture. And people will say, “How did you get here?”
And you’ll smile, knowing it wasn’t you—it was Him.
The Favor That Follows Obedience
It’s worth repeating: The miracle didn’t happen until the servants were willing to walk it out. It wasn’t until they poured and served that transformation took place.
So many of us want to see favor before we take the step. But God says, “Start walking—and I’ll start working.”
The wine didn’t change in the jars. It changed on the journey.
The same goes for you. Your calling will come alive when you start stepping in faith, even if it doesn’t make sense. God honors obedience, and with obedience comes favor. Divine appointments. Supernatural acceleration. Provision that makes no sense on paper.
Suddenly, It Happens
The fermentation process that should’ve taken weeks or months? It happened in an instant.
Because when Jesus moves, time bows to His timing.
Maybe you’ve been praying for something for years. You’ve been faithful, obedient, committed—and you’re wondering when the breakthrough is coming.
Here’s the Word for you: “Suddenly.”
That’s what Scripture says over and over when God breaks through. Suddenly the prison doors opened. Suddenly there was a sound from heaven. Suddenly their eyes were opened.
When God says go, everything shifts.
So don’t give up. Your suddenly might be just one step away.
Saved the Best for Now
I can’t shake this verse. It’s prophetic. It’s powerful. And I believe it’s personal.
“You have saved the best till now.”
That’s not just wine—that’s your life.
Maybe you feel like your best days are behind you. Maybe you feel like you’ve missed your chance, messed up your moment, or wasted your window.
Not true.
God is a redeemer. He’s a restorer. He’s the God who brings new wine out of empty vessels.
Isaiah 43:19 – “Behold, I am doing a new thing… do you not perceive it?”
You’ve got to perceive it. You’ve got to open your heart and see it. He’s doing something right now—a new thing. And your job? Show up with your water and trust Him with the transformation.
Miracles Beyond Your Capacity
Here’s my favorite part: Jesus didn’t just make a couple of bottles of wine. Scholars estimate this miracle produced around 150 gallons of wine. That’s over 700 bottles. For a wedding that was winding down, that’s… excessive.
But that’s the nature of grace.
God doesn’t bless you with just enough. He blesses with more than enough—pressed down, shaken together, and running over.
Why? So others can taste it too.
God wants to do something through you that blesses everyone around you.
Final Thought: From Water to Wine, From Ordinary to Overflow
I want to challenge you today—bring Jesus your water. Whatever it looks like. Whatever feels too plain, too broken, too small.
Your ordinary + His anointing = overflow.
He’s still turning water to wine. He’s still using servants to bring the miracle. He’s still saving the best for now.
So press in. Pour out. And get ready—because when favor flows, the extraordinary begins.
Let this be your declaration today: “Lord, I bring you my water. Do what only You can do.”
