Chum in the Water – Speak Life, Not Death

Have you ever seen a shark feeding frenzy? It doesn’t start with a bite—it usually starts with chum in the water. A little blood, a few pieces of bait… and then the chaos.

Your words can be the spiritual equivalent of throwing chum into your own life. When negativity, gossip, fear, or faithless speech flows from your mouth, you’re not just expressing feelings—you’re inviting the enemy in.

Proverbs 18:21 says: “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Negativity Is a Beacon for the Enemy

If your attitude is your posture, then your words are your broadcast. They amplify what’s happening inside. And when that soundwave is filled with fear, doubt, or bitterness, the enemy hears it like sonar. Negativity is like throwing a bucket of chum into shark-infested waters—except the shark is the devil, and the water is your faith.

Speak Like a Survivor, Not a Victim

Here’s the good news: You’re not powerless. You can use your words to declare faith, to speak hope, and to remind the enemy of who your God is.

When David said, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…”, he didn’t stop there. He finished with, “…I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” (Psalm 23:4)

That’s what I call the “But God Principle.”

• “Life looks impossible… but God makes a way.”
• “I failed again… but God’s mercy is new every morning.”
• “I’m not enough… but God’s grace is sufficient.”

You don’t have to deny your reality—but you must declare God’s greater reality.

Let Your Mouth Match Heaven

The Word tells us:

• “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up.”(Ephesians 4:29)
• “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt.” (Colossians 4:6)
• “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” (Proverbs 16:24)

Speak grace. Speak hope. Speak life. The enemy can’t bite what’s covered in faith.
