You Are A BucketHead…

QUESTION: What do you fill yourself with?

Everyday we are alive we are filling ourselves with something…Thoughts, food, drinks, an Oddbins quiz, music, movies, relationships, stress, hopes, fears, etc… The question is not will you be filled in life…the question is…

“What will you be filled with?”

So the next obvious question is…

“How do we fill ourselves?”

Answer…”With whatever we are thinking about.”

What dominates your thoughts is what you are filling yourself with. You truly are a bucket head, meaning that your mind (head) is a bucket that will hold something. If our mind is dominated by stress and anxiety then that is what our bucket will be filled with. If our thoughts are dominated by peace and forgiveness…then that is what you will be filled with. This works for the good and the bad. Over time it is impossible to have negative thoughts and behave in a positive way. Vice versa, if you have positive thoughts, you will not behave in negative way. What goes in, is what comes out…

James 3:11,12

11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Whatever fills you is what will come out of you. If you consistently fill your bucket with anger, then anger is what will come out of you. If you consistently fill yourself with peace, then peace is what will come out of you. If you do not like the results you are getting with your life the first thing you should look at is what is filling your life. What are you spending your time consuming? When you go to a doctor and tell them why you are feeling sick they are probably going to ask you what have you been doing. Pretty simple right? Well, the same truth applies to our spiritual life. If you do not like the harvest you are reaping then change the seeds you are sowing. If you want to change your output change your input. Because whatever you are inputting is what you will output. What you import you will export.

Do some reflection now and ask yourself what do you spend most of your time thinking about? What dominates your thoughts?

Here are some ways to make sure you are thinking the right things…

1. READ, READ, READ

Make sure you are filling your mind with God’s word, challenging books, blogs, articles, etc… The more you’ll read, the more you’ll feed your spirit. The more God’s word is being poured into you the more you will pour out God’s characteristics in your life. It is impossible to grow and fill your mind with the right things if you are not giving yourself a healthy dose of God’s Word and life challenging books.

2. Get Around The Right People

Make sure you are filling your time with the right people. Don’t hang out with those that are going to fill you with JUNK! Spend time with people that are going to challenge you, teach you, hold you accountable, and will add value to your life. You will become like those you hang out with, so make sure it is the right people you want to become like.

3. Don’t Give Negativity A Room

Your thoughts are your house that God has given you to protect and cherish. Quit giving negativity a key, a room, and welcoming. Quit allowing negativity to occupy space in your house. You would never invite a harmful and violent thief in your physical house…so why would you allow negativity to have a place as well? Kick self-limiting, self-destructive, and sabotaging thoughts out to the curb! Give them an eviction notice immediately without shame or reservation!
