WWJTFS — What Would Jesus Think, Feel, Say?

We’ve all heard the phrase WWJD—What Would Jesus Do? It’s a great starting point. But if you’ve followed Jesus for any amount of time, you know the real battle doesn’t begin with your behavior. It begins in your inner world—your thoughts, your emotions, and your words. That’s why I believe a better question for us as disciples might be: What Would Jesus Think, Feel, and Say?

Let’s start with our thoughts.

Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Your thoughts determine your direction. Whatever you focus on internally will eventually shape what happens externally. Paul tells us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind,” because you can’t live a life of freedom and peace if your thoughts are stuck in patterns of fear, shame, or negativity. Jesus thought differently. He saw people differently. He saw situations through the lens of heaven, not just earth. And if we want to be like Him, we have to learn to take our thoughts captive and align them with truth.

But it doesn’t stop there. What would Jesus feel?

That might sound like an odd question, but Jesus had emotions—real ones. He felt compassion, grief, joy, anguish, and even righteous anger. But what’s striking is how Jesus never let His emotions control Him. He led His heart instead of following it. And in a world that constantly tells us, “just follow your heart,” that’s a radical message. The Bible actually says the heart is deceitful. It’s not that emotions are bad—they’re part of how God made us—but they were never meant to be the drivers of our decisions. Jesus felt deeply, but He lived wisely. And so should we.

Then there’s what we say.

Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” Our words are the overflow of our inner life. If we’re bitter inside, it’ll show in how we speak to others. If we’re discouraged, it’ll come out in our tone. If we’re full of faith, that’ll spill out too. The truth is, your words are like a spiritual GPS—they reveal what direction your heart is heading. Jesus used His words to heal, to restore, to challenge, and to bless. And as His disciples, we’re called to do the same.

So, WWJTFS isn’t just a clever acronym—it’s a heart check. It’s a mirror we can hold up to ourselves each day.

Are my thoughts aligned with truth?

Are my emotions surrendered to God?

Are my words building others up or tearing them down?

Discipleship isn’t about looking the part. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about walking so closely with Jesus that His way of thinking becomes our way of thinking, His heart becomes our heart, and His words become our words. That’s what real transformation looks like. That’s what fruit looks like.

Let’s stop trying to perform our way into spiritual maturity and start walking in step with the One who changes us from the inside out. Because when you think like Jesus, feel like Jesus, and speak like Jesus—you won’t just be acting Christian. You’ll be living like Christ.
