If you haven’t read Part 2 do so here
We all want to know “how.”
How will I move forward?
How will this season get better?
How will I get past this obstacle?
How will I discover my purpose?
How will I be used by God?
These are real questions—and they’re not wrong to ask. But if all you ever focus on is the how, you’ll miss something far more important: the who.
Because in the Kingdom of God, the how is always unlocked by a who.
God doesn’t usually drop step-by-step instructions from heaven. Instead, He sends people. The answers you need are rarely discovered in isolation—they’re delivered in relationship.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17
Truth #2: God’s Strategy for Your Life Involves People
Let’s be honest—sometimes we wish God would just hand us the blueprint, the 10-year plan, the spreadsheet of every decision.
But God doesn’t typically work that way. His plans are revealed through process. And that process always involves people. People who guide you, challenge you, comfort you, and help call out what God has put in you.
Think about it:
- Moses had Aaron.
- David had Jonathan.
- Esther had Mordecai.
- Paul had Barnabas, then Timothy.
- Even Jesus had the twelve.
If Jesus—God in the flesh—chose to surround Himself with people to walk out His mission, how much more should we?
God’s pattern is always to send a who to help you discover the how.
Biblical Examples of “Who” Unlocking the “How”
Look at the story of David. He was a shepherd with a calling to be king. But he didn’t step into that calling alone. It was Samuel, the prophet, who anointed him. It was Jonathan who encouraged him. It was Nathan who corrected him.
David’s how—his journey from pasture to palace—was only made possible because of his who’s.
Now think about Ruth. She was a widow, a foreigner, a woman in a patriarchal culture with no clear path forward. But she attached herself to Naomi. That decision—to walk with the right who—put her in position to meet Boaz and ultimately become part of the lineage of Jesus.
God orchestrates destiny through divine connections.
How Community Unlocks Purpose
Proverbs 20:5 says: “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.”
You have purpose within you—deep, powerful, God-given potential. But you weren’t created to pull it out by yourself. It takes someone else to see what you can’t see and draw it out of you.
This is why your calling requires connection.
This is why your purpose is tied to your people.
Too many believers are trying to live like spiritual Rambo—fighting battles alone, figuring it all out in isolation. But Christianity was never meant to be a solo mission. You weren’t called to survive the battlefield alone; you were called to thrive in community.

So what do we do with all this?
Here are some practical steps to move from “how” to “who”:
- Pray for Divine Connections
Ask God to send people into your life who will sharpen you, guide you, and challenge you. - Lean into the Relationships You Already Have
There might already be a who in your life that you’ve been overlooking. A mentor, a pastor, a friend who loves you enough to tell you the truth. - Invest in Mentorship
Stop waiting for someone to come to you. Take the first step. Ask questions. Seek advice. Honor the people God has placed in your life. - Be a Who for Someone Else
Someone else’s how is tied to your willingness to invest in them. Don’t just look for your next who—besomeone’s who.
Let this truth settle deep in your heart:
“The how you’re looking for is waiting inside a who you haven’t connected with yet.”
The how will come. But it starts with who.
