The But God Strategy

Let’s be real—life can be hard. There are days when anxiety wins, tears fall, and it feels like you’re drowning in disappointments. People betray you. Bills pile up. Sickness hits your body or someone you love. And sometimes, it’s not just one thing—it’s everything all at once.

But God…

That little phrase is more than just a spiritual soundbite. It’s the bridge between our reality and God’s promise. And when you learn to end every thought, every statement, and every story with “But God,” you start speaking the language of faith.

Be Honest—But Don’t Stop There

David, the man after God’s own heart, was brutally honest with his feelings. Just scroll through the Psalms. He cried, he questioned, he even complained. He said things like, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1). But David never stopped there.

He always circled back to the truth. He’d pivot and say, “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation” (Psalm 13:5). David teaches us that it’s okay to talk about what you’re going through—but you’ve got to finish the sentence.

“I’m scared right now… but God is my refuge and strength.”

“I don’t see how this will work out… but God works all things for the good of those who love Him.”

“I feel alone… but God will never leave me or forsake me.”

The Power of the “But God” Perspective

Every time you add “but God” to the end of a sentence, you’re adding truth to your reality. You’re inviting heaven into your situation.

  • Life looks impossible… but God makes a way where there seems to be no way.
  • I’ve failed again… but God’s mercy is new every morning.
  • They walked out on me… but God is still writing my story.
  • I’m not enough… but God’s grace is sufficient.

You’re not ignoring the pain. You’re not sugar-coating the facts. You’re just refusing to give them the final word.

What You Say Matters

Words are powerful. Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” What you say to yourself in the quiet moments—the whispers no one hears but God—those words are shaping your future.

So when the enemy whispers, “You’re not going to make it,” you respond, “But God has a plan for my life.”

When your own thoughts tell you, “You’ll never change,” you declare, “But God is still working in me.”

This isn’t fake faith. It’s fierce faith. The kind that stares down the storm and says, “I see you, but I see God too—and He’s bigger.”

Speak That “But God” Over Others Too

We need to be the kind of people who don’t just give sympathy—we speak strength.

When your friend is venting about their fears, don’t just nod and agree. Say, “Yeah, I hear you. That’s real. But God isn’t done with you yet.

When someone shares how they feel like giving up, remind them, “It’s okay to feel that way. But God gives strength to the weary.

Let your words be soaked in reality but saturated with hope.

Faith-Filled, Not Fake-Filled

Being a faith-filled person doesn’t mean you’re blind to what’s going on—it means you see what’s going on and still believe God can turn it around. Let’s stop pretending everything’s fine when it’s not. But also, let’s stop acting like the story is over when God hasn’t finished writing the last chapter.

The next time you feel defeated, discouraged, or just done, finish the sentence…

“This is hard… but God.”

“I don’t know how it’s going to happen… but God.”

“I feel weak… but God is strong in me.”

Every time you say it, you’re not just making a statement—you’re making a declaration. And the enemy hates it, because it means your faith is still alive.

So be real. Be raw. Be honest.

But above all…

Be the person who finishes every thought with hope. Finish every sentence with faith.

Finish every word with… But God.

If this post spoke to your heart, share it with someone who needs to be reminded that their story isn’t over—But God still has more.
