Where Desire Comes From…

Not too long ago my daughter Zion and I were laying in bed together talking one night.  We were discussing life and I was teaching her about following her dreams and the things God wants her to do.  She then asked a great question, she said, “What if what God wants me to do, I don’t want to do” I thought that was a great question that she asked and many others are asking in life.  What if what God has for me isn’t what I really want to do?

Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Many people read this verse and think that God will give them whatever it is THEY want.  But the truth of this verse reads that God is the GIVER of the desires of your heart, meaning that when you delight yourself in the Lord He GIVES you what your heart WILL desire.  Your desires will be from Him, not some selfish desire that you conjured up.  When we are walking in God’s truth and following His ways our desires will be from Him.  We will WANT to do what He wants us to do when we are aligned with His purpose.  We don’t have to fear that God will make us do something that is totally foreign to our gifts, talents, and desire.  God’s will is not a needle in a haystack type of hidden agenda.  We make it too complicated thinking that God will call us to do something that is not in our heart.  Now, I am not saying God won’t stretch us and move us out of our “comfort zone”, but He won’t move us out of our “strength zone.”  Our “strength zone” is where our gifts, talents, and purpose lay.  God will always stretch us beyond our “comfort zone”, but He does not call us out of our “strength zone.”  We can trust that God’s purposes are good and align with exactly who we are called to be, and what we are supposed to do.  Never fear that God will call you to do something you will not be able to do.  If He has called you to do something, you will be able to do it.  God does not mess up your calling or confuse it with someone else.

They key to ALL this is to align yourself with His purpose and delight yourself in the Lord.  Delight yourself in the Lord means to find your joy, peace, passion, and purpose in Him.  When we are aligned, God will plant His desires in us so that we live out those God given passions and purpose.  The desires within us will line up with His word and His ways.  Always test your desires by aligning them with God’s word and you will know if those desires are pure and righteous.

So what are your God-given desires? What is in your heart to do that will make a difference? Trust it and DO IT!!!
