I Met The World Guy…

A few weeks ago I was driving into Bloomington, Indiana to record a radio program I co-host each week. On my way into the studio I saw a guy walking on the side of the highway with a dog while he was rolling a giant inflatable globe…that’s right a giant globe. It is not everyday you see a guy walking down the street rolling a huge globe so I immediately got my camera out and snapped a shot…then I couldn’t resist…I turned around and pulled over to hear this guy’s story.

When I pulled over I got out of the car and approached him and asked what he was doing. He then went on to tell me about why he was rolling a giant globe. He informed me that for the last 10 years or so he had been waling all over the country rolling this globe to raise awareness for diabetes. He had a family member that passed on because of the disease and now he has taken up the cause to spread awareness and promote prevention. As it turns out the guy is somewhat famous as he has been interviewed on major news networks and other programs…you can check him out at www.worldguy.org

It was a great experience talking with him and hearing his story. As I reflected back on him later that day a question hit me. This was the question…

How far am I willing to go for my cause?

World guy was willing to walk across the country rolling a giant globe for his cause…what am I willing to do for my cause? Here are some thoughts about your cause…

1. What Is Your Cause?

Everyone should have a cause they are living for. A unique reason that God placed you on the earth. A purpose that drives you each morning to keep going. Without a cause life becomes meaningless and empty. A cause causes you to be filled with intentionality and reason. As followers of Christ our cause is simple…To know God and make Him known. The uniqueness to this cause is in how we make Him known and how we make a difference. What is your cause? What are you on this earth to do? Understand that you were created for a cause.

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

2. What are you willing to give up for your cause?

Every cause comes with a price tag. In my free ebook “5 Ways To Create A Great Future” I talk about what it means to pay the price for a greater future. In it I said,

There is no one that is exempt from paying the price to be great. It doesn’t matter where you came from or who you came from, at some point you will have to pay up. No one gets a free ticket to significance, it comes with a price tag. And greatness never happens automatically in life.

You will never reach your potential without paying some sort of price. As my mentor Dr. John C. Maxwell taught me…You have to give up to go up. What are you going to have to give up to go up? Maybe it is fear, or financial sacrifice, or comfort, maybe it is giving up some time to work on your goal. There is always a price to pay for a cause, but remember this the reward is much greater than the price.

Hebrews 12:1-3

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

3. What is keeping you from your cause?

We all face obstacles that try to block us from fulfilling our cause. These obstacles are part of the journey. The question is are you going to break through your obstacles or break down because of them? The people who breakthrough their obstacles are the ones who become successful in their cause. The ones who give up are the ones who are always searching for another cause. The problem is they never commit to one cause they just continue to jump from one to the other. Obstacles are not always a sign showing you are on the wrong path, many times they are a sign showing that you are on the right one. Identify the roadblocks that are keeping you from moving forward on your cause and figure out ways to breakthrough them. With Christ all things are possible so rely on His power and His guidance to give you the strength to breakthrough.
