Don’t Forget Jesus @ Work

No matter what you do as your day job it can be worship.  How we approach our jobs and work ethic are a direct result to our worship.  When we clock in to work we are clocking in our worship to God.  It is an opportunity to be thankful for the income and provision we have been given.  There are two kinds of people when it comes to work.  1) Those that complain about it.  2) Those that embrace it.  If you view your work as a job rather than worship it is easy to become bitter and lazy.

Colossians 3:23,24

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Whatever you do, work at it with all you heart as unto Lord.  That must mean if you like it, right? Or if you are following your specific dreams, right? No, the Bible says WHATEVER you are doing, do it for the Lord.  Christopher Wren one of the greatest architects in London was commissioned to build Saint Paul’s Cathedral after the great fire of 1666.  He liked working with bricks and in 1671 he observed 3 brick layers on a scaffel.  He asked them, “what are you doing?” The first man crouched down replied, “Making a living.” The second man half way standing said, “Building a wall.” The third man working hard and fast said, “Building a cathedral for the Almighty.” You see how you view what you do makes a huge difference.  You can choose to just get a paycheck and help out, but when you choose to let your work be your worship you have purpose.  A person with purpose is the most effective and productive person there is.

Don’t forget Jesus at work.  Bring His presence and purpose with you as you clean toilets, build houses, sell products, teach, create music, whatever you do.  Know that who you are at work is the Jesus that you are showing everyone else around you.  How are our kids supposed to be positive and have a strong work ethic for God when we come home complaining about everything we do? Bring light into the darkness.  See your purpose in whatever season of work you are in and fulfill it.  Be faithful with the little and God will increase your ability for more.
