Don’t Drive The Yugo

Guest Post From Chris Page

A man in Philadelphia was homeless during the last 25 years of his life. He ate from dumpsters. He slept in extreme cold and heat. He associated with few. The man was eventually found dead in an abandoned building. The biggest mystery was the police discovering $23,000 in cash strapped to his leg. It was determined that he had possessed this money for many years, BUT NEVER SPENT IT.

This homeless man lived like a majority of Christ-followers live today. The man was in a position to have what he needed to be fulfilled, but chose to live out of the condition he was in. We have been put in a position by Christ to be a thriving, successful, and happy person. The Bible says, “In Christ, God has given us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world.”  We have everything we need. We have A LOT strapped to our leg.

But instead of living out of the position Christ has placed us in, we choose to live primarily out of our condition. This means our lives are determined by our circumstances, mood swings, frustrations, and how others shape us. Jesus died to eliminate our inadequate condition and give us a new life based on living with Him is His position. That’s like trying to drive a rusted-out Yugo…

YUGO

when we could be driving a Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce.

Car

Go ahead and drive the beat-up Yugo. You will constantly have to repair the thing. In other words, it will cost you. And it will cost you to live out of our condition.

God has given us something much better than a Lamborghini. He has given us Himself. Via Jesus. In fact, I think I’ll just let Him drive me around the rest of my life…at no cost.
