3 Things Wisdom Can Do For You…

Wisdom is one of the most powerful tools that we can possess in life. It can be the difference maker in someone’s future and destiny. The Bible has a lot to say about the topic of Wisdom.

Proverbs 2:1-7

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.

9 Then you will understand what is right and just
    and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
    and understanding will guard you.

Here is what wisdom can do…

1. Wisdom Can Change Our Situations

Getting wisdom on our current situations in life can change everything. We can begin to rise up out of whatever we are facing. Wisdom can be the difference maker between where we are and where we need to go. Without wisdom we can fall victim to repeat the past over and over. However, with wisdom we can navigate through anything life throws at us. No matter what situation we are facing financially, spiritually, physically, emotionally, etc… wisdom can give us everything we need. Wisdom gives us hope for a better future. I have found that there is always HOPE if we have the wisdom to see it. I am convinced there are no hopeless situations only hopeless people. Wisdom gives us answers for the future. We can never lose hope when wisdom is guiding us along our journey.

2. Wisdom Can Change Our Future

I have often said, “You are only one idea away from a major break through in your life.” My wife Erin loves to come up with inventions in her mind. I have to admit she has some pretty amazing ideas, I am sure one day she will invent something that will be a major breakthrough.

The truth is every great invention started with an idea that changed the future. Wisdom gives us the ideas we need in order to break through the obstacles and challenges in our life. Who we can become and the potential we have is unlocked when wisdom fills our life. Our future is not a product of the past, it is a product of our wisdom. One idea from the depth of wisdom can change our destiny in an instant. The future gets better when we allow God to guide us there. And always remember that where God guides He provides. If He has called us to it, He will see us through it. His promises stand true even when the circumstances are bleak.

3. Wisdom Can Change Our Legacy

The examples we leave behind for our children, their children, and their children’s children is part of our legacy. The impact we make in this world leaves a legacy. The influence we have on co-workers and even strangers leaves a mark. Toward the end of the 19th century, Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel awoke one morning to read his own obituary in the local newspaper.  It read:

“Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, who died yesterday, devised a way for more people to be killed in a war than ever before; he died a very rich man.”

Actually, it was Alfred’s oldest brother who had died; a newspaper reporter had messed up the epitaph.  But the account had a profound effect on Alfred.  He decided he wanted to be known for something other than developing a means to kill people efficiently, and for amassing a fortune in the process.  So he initiated the Nobel Prize, the award for scientist and writers who foster peace.

Nobel said later: “Every man ought to have the chance to correct their obituary in midstream and write a new one.”

Legacy is about leaving a mark in this world. Wisdom allows you to know how to leave your mark in this world. The greatest good we could ever do is to follow the plans God has laid out for our life. When we are following God’s plans it will always impact other people. The best example we could ever set is to be a sold out, passionate follower of Jesus Christ. Each day is an opportunity to gain wisdom and live out our destiny. As we live out our destiny it creates a ripple effect that causes change.
