3 Signal Interferences…

God speaks to us each and every day if we would tune into His frequency. He is always sending a signal to us through His word, others, circumstances, and thoughts. When we connect with His wave length of communication we can know His heart and His ways. The problem is that there are so many things that try to interfere with God’s signal. There are many frequencies that are trying to make their way into us that we can easily become overwhelmed by. When these frequencies get our attention God’s signal becomes lost in the chaos. There are 3 obstacles that block God’s frequencies…

1. Distractions

One of the frequencies is what I call the “TRAP OF DISTRACT.” Distraction traps us in the things that do not really matter. It causes us to lose sight of the important and fall into the wasteland of unimportant. One of my favorite quotes by Francis Chan is  when he said, “Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” The more distracted we become the less productive we will be. When we get distracted from God’s frequencies we stop hearing His voice.

1 Kings 19:11, 12

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

Don’t become distracted by the lightning and thunder in life. There will be things that scream loud for your attention but it is the still small voice of God that we must tune into. This means that we can’t allow what the world says to become louder than what God is saying.

2. Distortion

Many times God’s signal gets distorted because of sin in our life. The more sin we have the more distorted His voice becomes. Sometimes the reason we are not hearing God’s voice is because we have not dealt with sinful issues that are muddying up God’s frequency. Satan is the great distorter of truth. Remember in the garden of Eden when the snake said, “Did God REALLY say you must not eat from the tree?” Notice he was trying to distort God’s voice by making the question what God REALLY said. That is what Satan does…he subtly tries to get us to question God by making us second guess truth. This is why Jesus said,

John 10:27

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

We cannot allow sin to distort God’s still small voice. We must allow His forgiveness to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and restore the clear signal from His mouth to our heart. We know His voice when we are close to His heart. The further we are from His heart the more distorted the signal becomes.

3. Disobedience

The biggest blocker that causes signal interference to God’s voice is our DISOBEDIENCE to His commands. Jesus said, “If you love me, you’ll obey my commands.” In order to know God’s will and hear His voice we must be willing to obey and walk in His ways. We cannot hear God if we are not walking with Him. If we choose to walk through life our way and not His way then we will become dear to His leading. To obey God is to listen and follow Him. To disobey God is to ignore and run away from Him. We cannot expect to hear His voice if we are unwilling to do what He says to do. God knows the intent of our heart. He knows what we are going to do even before we do it. Therefore, we must be obedient to His leading and guiding if we are going to open the line of communication from heaven to earth. Don’t ask God a question if you are unwilling to accept His answer.
